Christopher Hampton delivered the third Jocelyn Herbert lecture, Simplifying the Jungle, in the Olivier auditorium, with an audience of 950.

Drawings by Jocelyn were included in an exhibition selected by Professor Pamela Howard to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the Chichester Festival Theatre.

A display of Jocelyn’s masks from The Oresteia was established in the Victoria& Albert Museum Theatre & Performance  galleries. The loan has subsequently been renewed. See images below.

Jocelyn’s archive was used in relation to the AHRC funded project Staging Beckett: the impact of productions of Samuel Beckett’s Drama on Theatre Practice and Cultures in the UK and Ireland (University of Reading, University of Chester and V & A). It examined the role Samuel Beckett played in shaping modern practice. Matthew McFrederick, the PhD student working with this project, used the Jocelyn’s archive for his thesis A Historiography of London Productions of Samuel Beckett’s Drama.

The JHA contributed material to an exhibition at the University of Reading relating to productions of Krapp’s Last Tape, giving a sense of the scope of the project and coinciding with a public talk by Ian Rickson on Beckett and Pinter, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Beckett International Foundation.

Professor Anna McMullen, Director of Research for Film and Theatre at the University of Reading, published Samuel Beckett’s scenographic collaboration with Jocelyn Herbert in Degrés, (149-150. pp. 1-17. ISSN 0770-8378).

Lois More Overbeck, editor of the Correspondence of Samuel Beckett (Graduate School of Art and Sciences, Emory University USA), who has been in regular contact with the JHA, was among the year’s visitors.

CCW’s MA drawing students worked in JHA. The UAL’s Archives and Special Collections Peer Support Network held one of their meetings at the JHA.
